Originally issued by Saga Records in 1959 on STA 7020 / XID 5017 Stage Door are pleased to present the debut CD release of the 'Gigi' 1959 London Studio Cast Album, digitally remastered from the original stereo master tapes. Originally recorded and released by the Saga record label in 1959, the LP has since become highly collectable and sought after. Featuring the London Variety Orchestra under the baton of Gerald Gentry, the 'Gigi' studio cast comprises of Patricia Lancaster (Gigi), popular BBC radio stars Helen Clare (Mme Alvarez) and Peter Cavanagh (Honore), and Denis Quilley (Gaston). The recording faithfully recreates the memorable and timeless Lerner and Loewe songs composed for the film 'Gigi', and are performed superbly by the talented studio cast assembled by Saga Records. As bonus tracks, Stage Door have compiled a selection of recordings Denis Quilley made for various 1950s British studio cast albums, including songs from 'Kiss Me, Kate', 'Show Boat', 'Hit the Deck' and 'The Cat and the Fiddle'. The 'Gigi' London Studio Cast Album is issued on CD for the first time as part of Stage Door's "On Demand" series and is licensed from the Saga tape collection at the British Library.
