Brigadoon

Continuing Stage Door's series of cast album reissues presented in Digitally Extracted Stereo comes the Brigadoon 1957 Studio Cast Recording featuring Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy. Mixed by Ted Carfrae the release offers listeners the first opportunity to hear this mono only cast album in full stereo. Produced by Goddard Lieberson and conducted by Lehman Engel, Columbia Records’ studio cast album of Lerner and Loewe’s classic musical Brigadoon was recorded in July 1957. Unlike the original 1947 Broadway cast album, which was constrained by the recording technology of its era, this new studio recording benefited from significant advances in sound quality and gave listeners their first opportunity to hear a more expansive presentation of the score. Featuring an all-star cast, the album is led by Shirley Jones as Fiona MacLaren and Jack Cassidy as Tommy Albright. The supporting cast includes musical-theatre favourite Susan Johnson as Meg Brockie and Frank Porretta, a principal artist with New York City Opera, as Charlie Dalrymple. Although recorded in the summer of 1957, the album was not released by Columbia until May 1958. Despite its superb production values, and its reputation among collectors as the definitive recording of Lerner and Loewe’s score, the album was issued only in monaural sound. Stage Door Records is proud to present the first-ever release of the Brigadoon Studio Cast Recording in Digitally Extracted Stereo. The new 2025 stereo remix has been produced by noted engineer and producer Ted Carfrae. As a special bonus, this release also includes selections from Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy’s 1957 duet album Speaking of Love, newly presented in digitally extracted stereo for the first time and mixed and mastered by Carfrae.
