Early Miami: WMRZ Manipulations, 1991

"Recorded by Tom Smith on Miami Beach, Florida, on Febuary 11, March 1, July 20-21, July 23, and August 1, 1991. Mixed by Tom after-hours at Telemundo Studios, Hialeah, throughout the summer of 1993. Remastered by Linda, Viola & Uwe at the Slab, Cluj, in March 2019. --- South Florida AM outlet WMRZ had gone through many identities and format permutations since its licensing in 1939. By 1990, it had shifted to “adult standards” programming. For Smith and the nascent TLASILA project, the soft bombast of its “790 Memories” iteration seemed far more radical than anything else happening at the time. He recorded hours of its programming between 1991-1992, and the compositions that form Early Miami were created from cassette tapes altered in real time using pressure deformation, pause-button edits, and other techniques honed in the groups Boat Of and Peach of Immortality."
