According to W. E. Timner's Duke Ellington discography Ellingtonia, this concert was recorded on November 10, 1969 at the Opernhaus in Cologne, Germany. The full concert consisted of two sets. With the exception of tracks 11 and 12, this release contains most (but not all) of the first set. Tracks 11 and 12 are from the second set. The remaining selections from both sets were recorded but have not been released. A more complete package from the first set is found at [r9386018]. Although track 4 is introduced as "Jam With Paul," it's actual title is "Up Jump." Track 10 is the opening of a four song medley, though the latter two songs, "I'm Beginning To See The Light" and "Sophisticated Lady," are omitted from the CD. Track 13 is incomplete, faded out at the end. Although he was also a jazz bassist, [a263795] never played with Duke Ellington and is mis-credited on this release. That credit belongs to [a318576].
