Spats

Strictly limited to 300 copies. The first LP release from Vinyl Documents released on Saturday 5th December at an event organised by B Boy Documents in Bushey, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. The event was a reunion of original MCs and Cut Masters from the early UK hip-hop scene who performed live on the night. The A side is a montage of short recollections from clubbers and B-Boys who attended Spats nightclub in London, Soho, from 1982-1985. Spats nightclub was the epicenter of the underground UK hip-hop scene during that period with MCs and Scratch DJs performing there regularly. The B side is a cassette recording of a DJ and MC session recorded live at Spats in 1985 featuring DJ Fingers on the decks with Cool Cash C and two MCs from Family Quest [MC E-Mix and Dirty Harry] rapping on the mike. Cool Cash C, E-Mix and DJ Fingers attended and performed at the Bushey launch party and were available to sign copies of the LP on the night. The initial launch LP came complete with a Limited Edition A2 poster, an A4 poster of the launch event, two B-Boy Document special edition postcards. Printed covers for the LP were not available on the launch night so performing artists signed the white inner sleeves only. Full printed artwork sleeves for the LPs sold on the launch night were later available from Vinyl Documents upon request and all subsequent LPs came complete with the full artwork record sleeve. The A2 poster features the 'Story Of London Hip-Hop Hub' by James Mcnally, original Spats fliers and artwork of the legendary Kool Herc Party from 11 August 1973, which is considered to be the 'Birth Certificate' of hip hop.
