The Mandailing People Of Sumatra

Contains ensemble and solo music of the Mandailing people in the south-west corner - South Tapanuli area - of North Sumatra; The music belongs to a tradition which developed in the centuries before Muslim religion and Dutch colonial power entered the area. Performed by the following groups: - An Upper Mandailing group of gondang and gordang musicians entitled Gunung Kulabu in Pakantan, led by Burhannudin Nasution - A Lower Mandailing group of gondang and gordang musicians in Wele I, Pading Sidempuan, led by Zakaria Dalimunthe - A Mandailing group of gondang and gordang musicians entitled Gunung Medan in Pakantan, sponsored by Dr. A.
