This second release by The Billy Gibson Band is every bit as good as last year's CD that fired-up the blues world. Billy Gibson has been recognized as one of the world's most amazing harmonica player since the mid-90s. He has three solo CDs and was the frontman for the Budweiser In-Concert Series Band junkyardmen, who released two CDs (the second produced by Jim Gaines). Gibson's also a fine singer whose Mississippi background is honest and full of soul. Gibson's years on Beale Street have earned him numerous accolades and he is now one of the city's most celebrated artists. Recorded in Memphis at Studio Daddy-O, this CD is likely to dominate the blues radio charts. With clever songs by both Bowen and Gibson, the band sounds better than ever and exudes a confidence some musicians possess, but few earn. The Memphis-based band is proud of their roots, as witnessed on the celebratory track “Mississippi.” The CD also includes a horn section on four of the tracks, adding even more to that funky Memphis sound. As in previous releases, Gibson’s acrobatic harmonica riffs are absolutely astounding. This CD is sweet and southern and definitely something to get up and shout about.
