Text on back of GateFold: When Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman, and Steve Howe took to the stage together for the first time in seventeen years, the world understood the sig¬nificance. As quintessential elements of the classic Yes line-up of the seventies, they changed the sound of rock music as we knew it and created an entirely new genre. During their years apart, these four musicians travelled far and wide, working on projects that spanned the musical spectrum. Each expanded his own musical horizons, while gathering new sources of inspiration. Once reunit¬ed, Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe unleashed an album and world tour that was fresh and forward reaching, but remained true to the tradition and quality they had established as Yes. What has been captured on video is more than a mere souvenir of a short lived reunion. It is a powerful recording which captures the intensity and the honesty of a band performing the songs they love. The classics are rendered with the passion and style that made them great, while Bill Bruford’s electronic percussion provides an imme¬diate tip that this is classic Yes, ABWH-style. New compositions such as “Birthright,” “Brother Of Mine” and “The Meeting” hold their own amongst the classics. As always, Jon Anderson’s lyrics carry a message of hope for the future, while staunchly refusing to accept anything less than excellence in matters of music or spirit. The entire band’s performance echoes this philosophy. Rick Wakeman’s keyboards have never been more majestic; Steve Howe’s guitar never more emotive. A stunning stage set created by Roger and Martyn Dean is the icing on the cake. Ultimately, the reunion of Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe proved to be a shooting star — magical and all too short-lived.
