The Last Coat of Pink - After

Recorded, mixed and mastered at Crossroad Recording Studio, Cologno Monzese (Milano), Italy, in July 2020 (**), May and October 2025, by Vincenzo De Leo «The Last Coat of Pink», dedicato alla musica dei Pink Floyd, pubblicato da Caligola nel 2021, è l’album del debutto di questo originale trio acustico. Nel 2023 gli ha fatto seguito «Water's Break», dove sono state reinterpretate canzoni del repertorio di Björk. Entrambi i lavori sono disponibili sia in formato digitale che su compact disc. Successivamente The Last Coat of Pink è diventato anche il nome del trio. Sentendo il bisogno di far rivivere la sua ispirazione originaria e di pubblicare un vinile che contenesse anche qualcosa di nuovo, il gruppo ha quindi deciso di tornare in studio per registrare altre quattro interpretazioni di brani tratti dal repertorio della storica band inglese. Tre di queste hanno visto la partecipazione straordinaria di Francesco Bearzatti (sax tenore, clarinetto), che ha poi voluto aggiungere le sue ance a due brani del disco precedente: Is There Anybody Out There e Hey You. Con queste due sovraincisioni alla fine ben sei delle undici tracce incluse nell’LP risultano del tutto nuove. Questi sei inediti sono stati pubblicati in un EP del nostro catalogo Caligola Dig, mentre gli altri cinque brani si possono ascoltare, anche in formato digitale, nell’album del 2021. Il titolo scelto per questo atteso vinile, «The Last Coat of Pink – After», vuole mettere in evidenza proprio il collegamento con il primo disco. Fra i quattro nuovi brani c’è un vero e proprio gioiello, registrato dal trio senza Bearzatti: Incarceration of a Flower Child, canzone composta nel 1968 da Roger Waters per Syd Barrett, subito dopo la sua uscita dai Pink Floyd, che la band non ha mai voluto incidere. Per molti anni l’unica versione disponibile è stata quella presente in «Vagabond Ways», pubblicato da Marianne Faithfull nel 1999. Ventisette anni dopo, The Last Coat of Pink riporta alla luce questo dimenticato ma prezioso frammento dell’era Barrett, offrendone una propria personale e toccante interpretazione. ____________________________________________________ Caligola released «The Last Coat of Pink», dedicated to the music of Pink Floyd, in 2021 as the debut album of this unusual acoustic trio. In 2023, «Water's Break» followed it, a reinterpretation of selected songs by Björk. Both albums are available in digital format as well as on compact disc. Over time, The Last Coat of Pink also became the name of the trio itself. Feeling the need to rekindle their original inspiration and release a vinyl record that would also feature something new, the band decided to return to the studio to record four reinterpretations of songs from the repertoire of the legendary British band. Three of the new tunes featured special guest Francesco Bearzatti on tenor sax and clarinet, who then decided to overdub two tracks from the previous recording: Is There Anybody Out There and Hey You. With these two re–recordings, six of the eleven tracks included on the LP are new and previously unreleased; you can find them all in an EP of our Caligola Dig catalogue, whilst the other five tracks can be heard, in digital format too, on the 2021 album. The title chosen for this eagerly awaited vinyl, «The Last Coat of Pink – After», aims to highlight the connection with the first album. Among the four new pieces is a true gem, recorded by the trio without Bearzatti: Incarceration of a Flower Child, composed in 1968 by Roger Waters for Syd Barrett shortly after he left Pink Floyd. The band itself never recorded the song. For many years, its only incarnation was the version preserved on «Vagabond Ways», released by Marianne Faithfull in 1999. Twenty–seven years later, The Last Coat of Pink return to this forgotten but precious fragment of the Barrett era, offering their own original and touching interpretation—no small achievement.
