Emotional Diary 4. Recorded between 1999 and 2002. Recorded to ADAT “Nostalgia for Capitalist State,” “Hörnchen,” “Dezinformatsia,” “Nie Jacxz Swiinjge,” and “Sredi Bojev” were composed in 2000 as instrumentals and appeared on the 2001 release “New York Woman,” a miniCD distributed free as part of a video lecture/performance I did about music production at MoMA; and then, with vocals, on the EP “Iron Curtain Girl (released to Myspace in 2003): electroclash early Eighties nostalgia crossed with post-Iron Curtain “ostalgie” lol “Exercise Caution” was composed in 1999 and appeared on the 2006 CD release of “Army Jacket” as “Blipeds Exercise Caution” “Bootylicious” was produced as part of a summertime endurance test/performance piece called “Girlfriend,” which I did together with my friend Nico Baumbach. We set ourselves a rule: as far as voluntary music went, we were allowed to listen only to the current Billboard number 1 single, whatever it was... and during the long hot summer of 2001, just before 9/11, it turned out there were just three damn singles, which we bought as they came out: “Bootylicious,” by Destiny’s Child, “Lady Marmalade” by Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink & Lil Kim, and “You Remind Me” by Usher. As part of the piece, I made my own cover versions or treatments of all three; this is the only okay one, the other two are god awful… “Directly to the South” (2000) uses portions of the soundtrack from my video “’Painting’ Sites,” 2000 “Mike Music,” “Smooth Sailing,” and “Plenty of Room in My Heart” were composed in 2002, with a Korg M1, for the video installation “Playground,” with Mike Smith “Rejected or Unused Clips” appeared, in slightly remixed form, in the video “Rejected or Unused Clips Arranged in Order of Importance,” 2003 “Stagflation” appeared as “Stag” on the CD “Radio Action I: Audio Dispatch 08” (free103point9, 2003) The vocal from “You Are Walking in a Forest” appeared in the video “Industrial Synth,” 2000 Most of the tracks on this album were published previously on the compilation “Directions,” released to Soundcloud, Youtube, and Bandcamp
