Repress, limited pressing of 100 copies Born in Wrocław. Known and well-liked as a member of the Wrocław-based duo Skalpel. Much less known and liked as the author of several solo albums that illustrate and explore altered states of consciousness: Breslau (a solo debut released on Ninja Tune) – the frenzy of war, Dream Logic – the meanders of dreams, Delirium – psychedelic hallucinations, Fyodor – religious ecstasies and ethical illusions. On the album Refleks, he explores the state of mind of an old digger and beatmaker. He lives in Wrocław. About Refleks: Refleks is delicate and free. Of the two meanings of the word in Polish, I choose the one that refers to light on a river. Hypnotic and never monotonous, brilliant and enchanting, with depth lurking beneath it. The eddies we encounter on the album are only mildly deceptive—more playful than dangerous. Though one may peer into the abyss, it is not greedy; it lets you remain on the shore, it does not consume you relentlessly. In some tracks, it even throws you out itself: you’d gladly keep sliding down that tunnel – the slide seems endless, but then it suddenly and safely ends in the grass. In plush. As if the wind had carried you for a moment and then stopped at the least expected time, and you find yourself in a completely new, yet somehow familiar spacetime—a home that is not yours, but also not entirely foreign. The track titles clearly hint at Wrocław-related situations, but in my view, we are moving on a higher level of intimacy and abstraction.
