The Block Island Recording Project

Sometime in the early winter / spring of 2023, a new idea began its fruition. Following the release of Miguel Ospina and Aidan Herrera’s self-titled MiDAN eight months earlier, a simple concept arose with a new challenge. Make music… on the road. With the help of fellow friend Gavin Varga, the trio sought out to create this objective. Despite near cancellation due to heavy risk and shaky plans, brainstorming began. Branding themselves under the name Treehouse, the boys zoned in and set off on their journey as August arrived. Packed to the brim tightly in a small white sedan, toppled with recording gear, clothes and a week’s worth of supplies, Miguel and Gavin rode down to Block Island, RI on August 23rd. Joined by Aidan two days after their arrival, the work began, and a legacy was born. Hungry for their product, they lived off the tight confines of a car, a small propane stove and most importantly, the melodies and lyrics they put on tape. The week-long endeavor ended with the group arriving home, carrying their two fully taped four-track cassettes worth of music and memories. A year later, after the completion of the songs in Miguel’s home studio, 2024 finally saw the release of this record. Subsequently named The Block Island Recording Project, this final ten song collection delivers stories, emotions and insight into the minds and hearts of these aspiring teenagers. May this project not be lost time, but instead preserved and remembered as being an integral piece to the roots of their music. This is a snapshot, a memoir and transport into the lives of Aidan, Gavin and Miguel 2023-2024.
