Energumeni

La sorprendente collaborazione tra due figure seminali della scena post-punk italiana, ciascuna con più di 4 decenni di esperienza musicale alle spalle: Fabrizio Tavernelli (En Manque D'Autre, AFA/Acid Folk Alleanza, Groove Safari, Duozero, etc.) e Manitù Rossi (Le Forbici di Manitù). I titoli sono cantati in italiano, inglese metamorfico, gergo patafisico e astro-dada, nati da una serie di torrenziali improvvisazioni in studio, abbandonando i sentieri già percorsi per scatenare le energie inconsce che stanno in agguato sotto pelle. Tornando a giocare in “game pieces” senza regole, i due autori assaporano una libertà creativa contagiosa che ricorda lo spirito avventuroso di Faust e NEU! filtrato da geni post-punk e sensibilità post-industriali (difatti emerge un’obliqua cover degli Associates). Astrazioni mascherate da canzoni e vice versa, invocazioni a divinità egiziane posticce nascoste dietro veri occhi felini. Il termine “energumeni”, comunemente considerato sinonimo di bruto o mascalzone, significa più propriamente “posseduto”, “indemoniato”, “agitato da passione violenta, da furore incontrollabile”. Inoltre, entrambi i musicisti sfoggiano barbe veramente considerevoli. The titles are sung in Italian, metamorphic English, pataphysical jargon and astro-dada, born from a series of impromptu improvisations in the recording studio, abandoning the already beaten paths to unleash unconscious energies that lurk under the skin. Getting back into play in "game pieces" without rules, the two authors savor a contagious creative freedom that reminds of the spirit of adventure of Faust and NEU! filtered by post-punk genes and post-industrial sensibilities (in fact an oblique Associates cover emerges). Abstractions disguised as songs and vice versa, invocations to fake Egyptian divinities hidden behind real feline eyes. The term Energumeni literally means brutes or rascals in Italian, but its etymology also includes the concepts of "obsessed" and "possessed by the devil". Furthermore, the two musicians sport a truly considerable beard.
