An interviewer once asked Durruti what the point of winning would be when even victory would leave the revolutionaries with only a pile of rubble. It is we who built those palaces and cities here in Spain and America and everywhere. We, the workers, can build others to take their place. And better ones. We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth. There is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. Emma Goldman was a free thinker and a tireless and eloquent campaigner for human and sexual freedom during the early part of the 20th century. Anti-authoritarian, she fought small-minded peers as well as governments, capitalism and prejudice. When she said: "It's not my revolution if I can't dance to it," she understood that personal freedom and a right to enjoyment have to go hand-in-hand with social change.
