"A compilation on V/Vm Test Records"
Limited to 1000 CDs only.
Durations are not present on release.
Born in the brick-laden suburb of Manchester known as Stockport and now heralded around the world as the second coming of musical anarchy, V/Vm Test is one of the few record labels left that keep you guessing with every release. You don't listen to V/Vm so much as experience V/Vm. V/Vm is not some pretentious rock band trashing hotel rooms or some temper tantrum riddled pop star. V/Vm doesn't need DSP enhanced powerbook pyrotechnics or timestretched paradiddles to make its point or get on the guest list. No, V/Vm is more than that. Much more.
V/Vm is doing an interview for the BBC while gatecrashing a family wedding. V/Vm is being dragged through no less than seven Mancunian bars before having a drunken hooligan get thrown through a plate glass window right in front of you. V/Vm is smuggling in and finishing a two litre bottle of Gin and Tonic to 808 State at Castlefields only to end up in a full-on melee perfectly synched to Cubik blaring at 180 decibels, the result of which is several bloody punters and not one spilled drink. V/Vm is dancing the night away to Abba and Nirvana after slashing open your index finger, clothes covered in blood and not missing one beat to Dancing Queen. V/Vm is 70-year-old women buying you rounds in heavy metal biker bars at 4am and then asking who's better: Napalm Death or Deicide?
V/Vm represents our deepest musical fears and our greatest air-guitar rock superstar desires. They are everything we want them to be and yet nothing we ever expect and that is exactly why we love them so much.
olli Siebelt - New York. February 2003
Putting a compilation together these days can fall into two categories. The easy option is contacting established artists, playing safe and not taking risks. The harder option focuses solely on music and not reputation. This compilation falls into the latter category. I'm sure many artists will be new to you. It took over twelve months of listening and travelling to compile and features musicians from all around the globe. As a collection of tracks I don't think I've ever been as excited about a V/Vm release before and about the future of modern music. When V/Vm was founded its aim was to provide a platform for musicians on the outside, a reaction against a stagnant industry built on hype, bluffers, secret handshakes and backhanders. What you hold here is a culmination of what I've worked hard to achieve and a testament that V/Vm is still not compromising or taking the easy option. V/Vm wants to push and is prepared to back new music from new artists it relates to and connects with. With all of this in mind this compilation would not have been possible without the hard work and support of certain people. The musicians of course who create for a need to create and not for fame or magazine photos. In compiling the audio I benefitted from the help and wisdom of animal (the local connection), emil (the american connection) and dave and lucas (the australian connection). There are too many people to list individually whose help and support helps give V/Vm this opportunity. These people know who they are and I send my thanks and hope V/Vm can repay you all someday through its output and respect. If you bought this compilation V/Vm extends its gratitude. V/Vm x
