Примечания

These acetates were recorded in 1939 at Carnegie Hall in the same manner as the ones [a=John Hammond] made and used as the basis for all the issued recordings of this landmark concert that were ever released. They contain some music and spoken word material from the 1939 concert that was never released from Hammond's recordings, some of which may not actually be present on Hammond's recordings. Most notable is the more complete account of The Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet performance that night. Only three of their songs have ever been released from the Hammond recordings. Two additional ones are present here: "Remember Me" and "Am I Born To Die?" In addition, their encore number "The Gospel Train" here retains a brief introduction by Sterling Brown. The Hammond releases edited it out and the song's track placement on the later and more definitive releases suggests it was the concert's lead-off number. Two additional introductions by Sterling Brown are notable as well. The Hammond releases refer to him as the Master of Ceremonies for the concert but they only include his introductory comments at the beginning of the show. On these recordings, he gives James P. Johnson and Big Bill Broonzy lengthy introductions.
