Anatomy of Power

This album has been three years in the making, and is far and away the best thing Maxdmyz have ever done. It was recorded at Russ Russell's The Parlour Studios (Dimmu Borgir, Fields of The Nephilim, Evile), engineered and produced by Neil Haynes (XII Boar, Sacred Mother Tongue, The Curious Incident), and mastered at Hertz Studios (Behemoth, Decapitated, Vader). So that in itself is some pedigree. Lyrically, Anatomy of Power is interesting and emotive. Untypically perhaps for metal in general, they play a strong role in forming the identity of the album and add a huge amount to the listening experience. Slip Away and Another Dead Sun are quite moving, dealing respectively with the issues of cynicism and hopelessness which are all around us today, and the tragic tendency of rock stars to take their own lives under the pressures of fame. The songs comment impressively on political and social themes - from the insane dramatized mass-killer monologue of Culture of One, to the bitterly analytical Anatomy of Power. The album also explores existential and spiritual themes - notably in the awesome My State. Anatomy of Power is a concept album for our time, addressing, as it does, issues of powerlessness and inequality, reflecting a world where people are done with the status quo, and are more acutely aware than ever of the insufficiency of materialism. Anatomy of Power offers some compelling thoughts on how we can evolve, both as a species and as individuals - transform even - because this band knows, as many of us do, that we just can’t go on like this.
