AL'S sentimental sojourns to Basin Street in New Orleans and Beale Street in Memphis are nostalgic gems complete with his sly comments on the people and activities of that bygone era. ERNIE KEMM‘S brilliant and crisp piano backing and solos really spark every tune. His "Piano Roll Blues" is the instrumental highlight of this album. Capably backed with Dick Padgett on bass and Bob Mayer on drums, musically these musicians are, as AL would say, "Mighty fine". AL completely demonstrates his great "feel" for music and his incomparable showmanship when he sings "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime". Only a tune later, he really swings a rousing "Minnie the Moocher". When you play this album, you will really have had a "Night With Fike". But more than that, you will have been regally entertained by one of America's rare and true and all too few "performers".
