The Early Years

Taken from back cover: Percy Sledge is not exactly a household word to the American record buying public but he is the type of soul artist that has commanded respect from the people in the music industry for a long time. This was evident by Bette Midler's choice of the Percy Sledge classic "When a Man Loves a Woman" for her giant movie "The Rose". Although Sledge has had some huge hits such as "Out Of Left Field" and the afore mentioned "When a Man Loves a Woman" it is always interesting to check an artist's ability to handle a tune that is not often associated with his or her "bag". I find " Behind Closed Doors" just such a song and Percy's delivery is as one would expect, for he leaves nothing more to be done with it. This album will be particularly interesting to the Percy Sledge fan who missed some of these hits the first time around.
