ENWIA SHOMON "Enwia has done a great service to the Assyrian song. His impact has been greater in the field of ZMARYATI D'AUMTA which we all love to listen to at all times. Enwia is not just a highly talented singer. He is an accomplished poet and song-writer as well. He has written many songs, and it does not take much to inspire him to write a song to suit any special occasion. We all look forward to the day when we will be able to buy his records. Assyrians all over the world, particularly those who have been privileged to enjoy listening to Enwia Shomon singing at numerous parties, weddings receptions and other social functions, will hasten to receive this truly magnificent LP record into their homes as one of their most treasured possessions. No effort has been spared to ensure that quality of the highest standard was achieved in the making of this record. Enwia's uniquely gifted voice, his folkloric and delightful lyrics used in every one of the songs and his ability at composing the tunes and music for his songs, all of these factors combine in enriching the Assyrian song and elevating it to an internationally accepted standard. Enwia began his singing career in 1964 when he was living in Habbniya, but it was in 1970, soon after his arrival in Sydney, Australia, that he began to enhance his talent as a composer and singer of ZMARYATI D'AUMTA (Assyrian National Songs). The very first song he sang in Sydney was TANILI LA'I LA'I and KTAWE B'SMIRTA. He sang both these songs in a party organised by the Assyrian Australian Association. The large crowd present at that function gave him a rousing ovation. Since that memorable night, Assyrian National Songs have become a regular feature of all social functions organised for the Assyrians of Sydney. Enwia has written and composed over 60 songs. We will hear some of them on this LP. More LP's are being planned for the near future. Eshaya Nano has been striving for many years to elevate the Assyrian music to the level comparable to that of good western music. He saw this LP record by Enwia as the golden opportunity he had been waiting for. When Enwia Shomon approached him with the proposal that he take care of all musical arrangements for the record, he did not hesitate in taking up the challenge. Eshaya has after months of hard work and unfailing dedication, succeeded in achieving his ideals. Every musical introduction, every sound effect has been meticulously arranged. The total outcome must surely be regarded as a praise worthy monument of this young Assyrian's achievements in the field of musical arrangements.
